Historically, the term "bohemian" was a pejorative to describe the Roma gypsies, a small community in France believed to have originated in Bohemia, central Europe. What was once seen as something "lesser than" quickly became romanticised; thanks to the massive success of "Scenes de la vie de Boheme", a play by Henri Murger in 1850. In modern context, bohemianism is seen in a more neutral light; the practice of an unconventional lifestyle. A bohemian is someone who is in creative pursuits of the arts, literature, music, spirituality, and critical humanity causes. In essence, many bohemians are wanderers or adventurers open to new ideas and are passionate advocates of humanity/environmental issues.
BohoBureau is an experience-driven lifestyle platform which curates original yet timeless content that creatively frames humanity issues shaping the future in areas such as Alternative Living, Fair Trade, Sustainable Luxury, Conscious Consumerism, and 21st Century Developments (e.g. Climate Change, Renewables, Women Empowerment, Environment).
We aim to produce thought-provoking insights, opinion pieces, articles, and short videos/documentaries driven by trends and data gathered from our partners, research tools, and various organisations. Our role as an independent information hub allows us to examine regional and global events from a balanced perspective. This unique collaboration enables us to empower and influence people whilst driving engagement amongst the regional and global community.
We are (currently) a small team of less than 10 people, with two head honchos – Dayana and Nirman – actively running the platform. Both adore the alternative lifestyle with a sprinkle of interest in the new age movement (don’t worry, BohoBureau is not a shady cult!)
Though most of us are digital nomads who work remotely in different locations and timezones, we do have a virtual office located at Regus DPulze, Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Feel free to visit us in person!
